I agree, but my sister was not a martyr. She just felt compelled to care for him through his sickness. No big deal, just her choice.

I know how stressful teaching as a profession is--
I hope your mom has some type of insurance plan that offers you help during the school year as well
maybe your mom has good and bad days so that she is more self-sufficient at times and does not make you feel torn between doing your job and taking care of her...
good luck and hope you find some long term assistance as well
