I am new to Texas and will be moving into a single family home in Dallas in a few months. Besides getting termite protection, what else is recommended for the area? Ants? Other 8-legged creatures I need to worry about? Also, does anyone have a recommendation of a service that does a good job?

Ants, spiders, wasps, roaches, and the rare scorpion (depending on where you live). Quarterly pest control service will usually take care of all of the above. Termite protection comes extra and can be pretty pricey.

We use Certified Termite & Pest control. They're online at Pest Control Dallas Texas : Exterminators Plano : Mosquito Control Dallas : Bird Control Corpus Christi : Certified Christmas Lights

If you want to cut down on the number of bugs in your house let some Mediterranean Geckos loose indoors. They've got a pretty voracious appetite and they're completely harmless.

I just got a gecko OUT of my house last week! I'd rather deal with the bugs!

For roach control, I have always used the Combat disc stations and never had a problem.

We use a quarterly pest control company (All Safe) and the things we've been told to watch out for are Termites (of course) Fire Ants, Carpenter Ants and Roaches. They are everywhere! A good quarterly pest control treatment should keep you free of them. There are many preventative techniques that the pest control people should discuss with you - cut tree limbs to keep growth away from the roof (entry for carpenter ants), don't have a woodpile, don't lean wood and debris against your home, if you built wooden structures encase the posts in cement to minimize ground contact, etc etc. Depending on where you live you may need treatments for other creepy crawlies but usually the less chemicals the better and all safe isn't gung ho on the spray everything to death idea.
