We will be relocating to the Plano area. Dh and I want to get a feel for the area before we purchase a home so we plan on getting a 6+ month lease while we learn the area. I'm looking at apartmentfinder.com and I don't know where to begin as far as location goes.

We have a 4 month old baby and 2 cats.

Dh will be working between 121, Dallas Pkwy, and Legacy drive. I want to live somewhere that is nice but since it will be very temporary I don't want to pump a bunch of money into rent.

Can anyone help me

Should I look into some other areas such as The Colony or Frisco?

You have to expect that you will have to pay a premium for a short term lease vs a year. Also, the cats will cost you a lot in deposit that is likely going to be non refundable.

What budget are you looking to stay within?

An yes you should expand your search to include Frisco as well. Your husband's work location is very close to the city limits

Take over a short term contract on craigslist, someone always wants to sublet a rental there. Good luck.

I suggest you search it by yourself .Everyone told us that it will be expensive finding a cheap place for term lease but we didn’t listen to anyone we kept looking and we found a very nice apartment with great view (on the lake) for $1000 a month and we signed up for 3 month only , they wanted us to pay $1100 but we said no and we kept negotiating with them till they agreed ,so i guess my point is you can find a nice or /good place if you can spend time looking around and you will get it. Frisco and Plano are the best two cities i would not recommend any others .you could also try Craigslist (look under sublet/temporary) section, search on local newspaper too .also just wanted to let you know that i had two young kids when i was looking for apartment and i was new to country as we came from Australia so don’t worry there’s many options out there in terms of housing .Good luck!!

Could you please DM me the place you found. This sounds like a steal. I am always looking for places to recommend to clients. I haven't found anything with 3+bedrooms for under 1250 in Allen/Plano and plus they charge more when it's for less than a year.

That is very close to very I currently reside and were I have searched greatly. That area is very new and up and coming with a lot of construction. I used an apartment locator to find my current apartment. I was sick of driving around on my own wasting time. But I do know you can expect to spend $650-750 for a 1bdr and $800+ for a 2bdr easily.

I was in the same boat and found an apartment in Frisco that is close to your wrok. Also, there are tons of restaurants and shopping in the area. I pay $688 and signed a 10 month lease. The apartements in the area are super competative, so you should be able to find something for less than $700/mo. Good Luck!
