Looking for country living (Dallas, Fort Worth: cheap house, school districts, safe)

We are looking to move to north Texas, dh will work in Plano. We are coming from a small town of 3500, would like to keep life still similar. What towns are around that size within a 1 to 1.5 hour driving distance?

Parker (20 mins)
Murphy (25 mins) growing, but spread out
Lavon (35mins)
Mckinney (40 mins) not small town any longer but spread out
Bonham (60 mins)
Anna (60 mins)
Melissa (not sure)
Nevada (not sure)

Lots of little small towns in between to.

Kicker is where DH be working in WEST Plano, EAST Plano or Central Plano....

Celina and Prosper are looking like the next beneficiaries of the Metroplex's northward sprawl. Frisco and McKinney are getting built out and north of there is the new place to get cheap houses that will eventually become worth large amounts of money. Basically is now and Plano was 15-20 years ago.

So true. I think the only thing that is going to stop northern sprawl is the Oklahoma border

Look into Decatur. It's larger than your current town, but still has somewhat of a small town feel. The houses are on larger lots, and there is not as much congestion as there is in Dallas and Fort Worth. The area is very safe and family-oriented. I have a friend who works at the Presbyterian Hospital of Plano and lives in Decatur. He says it takes him about an hour( I think he leaves at about 6:30am if I remember right because he has to be there early) . He takes 380 to Denton and gets on 35E and goes down to Business 121 and takes it to Parker Road and goes right over to it. I just looked it up on Google Maps and it's right at 50 miles.

Haha! That's probably true. There is huge plans for Prosper, Celina, Princeton to explode with new growth soon, assuming that the economy gets better.

Whitewright and Trenton are both small, good towns with good school districts.....Hwy 121 no. of McKinney...not likely to get caught up on the big city growth in your lifetime.
