Getting something for under $500 is going to be difficult, especially in a safe area. You can get something for about $600 in the Village area.

Honey, you could not get a 1 bedroom apartment in Quinlan for that price. And that is out "in the country".

You may be able to post on Craigslist and get some roommates to get a larger apartment if the price is that big a concern.

But even in areas which aren't safe or well-regarded it is going to cost more than that, even for a studio. The only thing I could think of is maybe a student apartment out in Denton near UNT.

Keep in mind that an apartment locator is not going to tell you which area is safe and which one is not. They are bound by the same rules as Realtors. We are not supposed to steer people into or out of any particular neighborhood.

Using this forum and getting the opinion of local residents is a very good idea.
