Hello!

I am trying to start a new business of my own. I gave notice at work last week at my "real" job, so my time is dwindling... I really can not stay due to lay-offs and threat of outsourcing my department.

I have had several calls from word of mouth and craig's list but nothing ever came of it. But my question, being new to this, where would you advertise? I am open to all input of those who have been there before me. There are no such ads in the local paper where I am.

I guess I can say that I am trying to enter the home child care field.

Are there any school teachers in your area expecting? This would give you summers, spring break and the Christmas holidays off so you would not put others in a bind when you wanted to take a vacation. Even teachers w/ elem age kids that teach in the older grades are ALWAYS looking for someone to pick up their kids and keep them for an hour or so after school.

Pick up a copy of Dallas Child and see what kind of ads are in there. Plus they will more than likely have some articles that are very worthwhile for you as a caregiver that are aimed at parents on how to find quality childcare.

We just moved to this city last week, so I am trying to feel my way around. Thanks for the input. I have my mom and a network of about 3 other people to be my back up so I am not real worried about sick days and vacations and such. If I can just find some children before I leave my job, that would be nice.
I need to go grab a copy of Dallas Child!!

We had our first child care search last year and it was horrible. Trying to find somebody to take care of our daughter just so we could have a night to ourselves was near impossible. I'm not sure what the best answer to your question is but there has got to be something better out there...

I will suggest this as an option, we relied heavily on the director of our church nusery for recommendations. I would say contacting local churches about your availability and qualifications couldn't hurt!

Good luck.

There are quite a few neighborhood newspapers in the Dallas area (in addition to the Dallas Morning News' suburban sections). The advertising rate in the neighborhood publications is MUCH cheaper than Dallas Morning News. Check out the Frisco Enterprise.
