Sorry. Since hurricanes don't affect us up here beyond bringing a lot of rain, I mixed up the names. ;-)

Actually, no. I think she can do Dallas. It will all depend where their employment will be. If it's in Dallas and it's on a rail line, I'd say do it. The next step is finding a place either on or close to a rail line to live and that should be the easy part.

As far as Hurricanes go, Ike did little damage in my part of Houston, which is the western side of town. If you live pretty far from the coast and don't have a storm surge issue with a well built house you are ok. And like someone said you do get a few days lead time. A tornado has maybe a 15 minute warning and can totally destroy your home. I have always thought of Dallas as a Tornado prone place. I realize I could go back to NYC or to DC or to Chicago to get what I am looking for, however, I am not interested in leaving Texas I actually love this state, I just want to live in a place with more transit and if Houston wasn't so far behind on that front there would be no reason to think about leaving.

I've lived in Texas for 9 years and never saw a tornado. However, I was hit by the beginning stage of a weak tornado (i.e., quick, swirling winds sucking up debris) in ... get this ... New Jersey!

Dallas has had only one tornado of any consequence in 165 years - an F-3 in 1957 which killed 10 people.
