Click Here And then click on 'Rainfall' & 'PROBE'. You can mouse-over to see the huge rainfall amounts in the DFW area.

One area (pink) received in excess of 11" of rainfall.

We have had a series of rain events over the last 4 months.

We were actually ahead of average rainfall for the winter before this event.

The "agricultural drought" ended when the ponds and flood control/conservation lakes filled up with the last rain event three weeks ago.

This will end the "hydrological drought" as the reservoirs and groundwater will get recharged. The lakes should come up 2-4 feet or more by the weekend.

The stage is now set to completely fill the reservoirs over the next few months.

Here is how it works.

1. Soil is recharged.
2. Soil is saturated.
3. Ponds not on streams fill up.
4. Creeks and Streams get filled up.
5. Conservation and Flood Control Lakes get filled
6. Major Reservoirs are filled

Each rain event has to top off 1-5 before doing 6.

We were pretty much at 5 before this event and the 1 inch rain yesterday during rush hour checked off 1-5 and set the stage for the heavy rains to do 6.

Cool!

Thanks for the insight.

Dallas Marks Record 1-Day Rainfall (http://www.myfoxdfw.com/dpp/news/Dallas-Marks-Record-1-Day-Rainfall-012512 - broken link)

So, is this story saying that the "official" rainfall was only 1.31" at DFW? That seems strange.

It's obviously a mistake. It should be more like 4.31".

I'll be on the lookout for pending news (television, articles, etc.) that our major reservoirs are being filled by this rain. I'll also be on the lookout from Dallas and the surrounding suburbs (cities) that our water-use restrictions will be lifted immediately because they are no longer needed due to this rain.

Don't hold your breath-governments can be lethargic on things like that...

Yeah I appreciate the fact I left my gloves, snowcap, and scarf in BOS. And I'm loving the weather right now. But I'm telling when they say 108, they mean in the shade. And we're talking 3 solid months of Hell. Weather here really isn't better than Boston. The allergy season can be brutal, and often there are two allergy season. And when Dallas is it's prettiest, that's when you can't go out.

There's just nothing nice about 155 degrees in your car and the air is full of soot because the whole F-in area is literally on fire.
