I went to the ALDI on NW Hwy & close to LBJ this afternoon. They have really good prices on items that I am familiar with from living in Europe as well as items that are US specific. They do have some known brands like Pringles, UNO deep dish pizza, Hershey's...

And they have chocolates from Germany which are absolutely awesome. Their hazelnut-raisin chocolate bar is 200g and $1.29 and tastes just like the Milka (Kraft foods) version which you can buy at World Market for $3.99 for a 100g bar.

It's like shopping in a discount store in Europe. Complete with super-fast check-out (yes!!!), no baggers, no free bags, no credit cards, coin-locked shopping carts. I love it!

Is the quarter to rent the cart, or just a deposit that you get back? I can't imagine renting a cart, so you can buy MORE stuff from them than just a handful.

You get the quarter back once you return the cart...it's just a deposit and an incentive to return the cart instead of leaving them in the parking lots.

Was at Aldi's a few weeks ago. They had a special $0.99 for pineapples for 2-3 weeks at least. I got several over like 3 different trips :-)

They still have that special. As well as the 39 cent salad mix special that usually runs $2.99 at competing grocery stores.

FWIW--someone I know who shops lots of discount stores because she works cleaning houses and gets lot of her cleaning products at 99cents and others like it
told my friend whom she cleans for that she shops at Aldi now and loves the store-brand fabric softener...
buys her canned veggies there as well and they are cheapest in area--
