much maligned cedar hill schools continue to impress. all its elementary schools are either exemplary or recognized, the 9th grade center is recognized, and CHC high school is rated exemplary.

I compared this performance to some northern burb districts. Plano's performance is strong, but it has a middle school (armstrong) rated unacceptable. McKinney has too many elementary schools rated acceptable, and McKinney HS is rated unacceptable

Southern Living,
Cedar Hill did very well this year. The Collegiate High School is a great addition to the district and the Ninth Grade Center, which was Academically Unacceptable two years ago, has made a complete turnaround.

The number of Recognized and Exemplary campuses rose throughout the southern suburbs. The breakdown of higher performing campuses by district are as follows:

Cedar Hill ISD: 9 of 14 (64 percent); up from 54 percent in 2008
DeSoto ISD: 5 of 12 (42 percent); no recognized/exemplary campuses in 2008
Duncanville ISD: 13 of 16 (81 percent); up from 69 percent in 2008
Lancaster ISD: 6 of 9 (67 percent); no recognized/exemplary campuses in 2008
Midlothian ISD: 7 of 9 (78 percent); up from 75 percent in 2008
Red Oak ISD: 5 of 7 (71 percent); up from 57 percent in 2008
Waxahachie ISD: 10 of 11 (91 percent); up from 56 percent in 2008.

There are definitely good things going on in schools across our area and the entire Metroplex as well.

It still want be enough to change many folks mind on this board. Stats are good when they reinforce the northern sector reputation but are skewed when you try to do the same for the southern sector. There will always be "yes but what about this" attitude. I also notice the number of DISD schools that get high marks. I'm glad to see both on the upward swing.

Its sad, but you are right. No matter how well some campuses perform, there will always be a few that try to devalue it. This is particularly true, when it comes to schools in Dallas ISD, where campuses such as Molina and Sunset (both "Recognized" this year) outperformed a number of suburban high schools that are perceived as better.

Since these ratings are used so heavily to judge schools, I'm just glad to see all of the high performing campuses in Cedar Hill and the other southern suburbs.

There are 22 elementary schools listed not counting JJAEP which was not rated. Out of those 22, only 7 are not rated exemplary. 7 out of 22. So 15 are rated exemplary. 2x the amount that are not rated exemplary, and of those not rated exemplary, 3 are recognized. So that leaves just 4, that are rated acceptable. 4 out of 22. 18%. Would you care to revise that statement?

having a magnet high school--Collegiate--rated exemplary is not exceptional--that is what it SHOULD be rated--if top scoring students can't ace the TAKS--then who could?

Im not trying to put down McKinney ISD, which obviously has many great schools.

Cedar Hill collegiate should be, and is, rated exemplary. The 9th grade center (which is not a magnet), is rated recognized. The point is that there are many great choices and good schools in Cedar Hill. Many posters here have erroneously (mostly due to ignorance) painted Cedar Hill schools as being sub-par. This is obviously not true.
