Hello, I will be a junior in high shcool in minnesota, and I am interested in a community college out of state after high school. What do you need to get into dallas community college? my gpa isnt the greatest its about 2.3 i believe on a 4.0 scale. And can I get in if I live in minnesota? or do you have to be in texas? Thank you

It is open admission--you only need a HS diploma or a GED.

You can get in from out of state, but it's much more expensive. There are also no dormitories, so you'd have to secure housing and transportation on your own.

Community colleges here are largely commuter schools, so you won't really find a college atmosphere.

You do know there are lots of 4-year schools that are open admission, right? You might want to look at one of those first, before an out-of-state community college.

I wouldn't call TWU an 'open admissions' school at all....you have to have graduated in the top 50 percent of your class and have a 1000 SAT or 21 ACT score as well as have completed the college prep classes in school. It's a state school, but doesn't have the 'open door' policy like community colleges do.

Default Re:

I've taught in both the Minnesota and Dallas community college systems.

You'd be much better served staying in Minnesota and attending those colleges.

I saw in an earlier post that you were looking at Mankato. That sounds like a better situation for you.

With those HS grades, college success is far from a sure thing. Trying to do it on your own in an unfamiliar situation with no family support is just setting yourself up for failure. Don't make it harder than it has to be.

And I'd suggest Collin County Community College District (Quad C) instead of you are set on this idea. I lived at the far north end of the DCCCD in Garland and I'd say half of the kids who went to community college paid the extra to go to Quad C instead of the closer DCCCD campuses.

Oh, okay. It was open admissions back in the 1980s I think. I took some classes there back then and it was described to me as an open enrollment school. Or maybe I misunderstood.
