I guess it makes sense if you think about it....

For instance, 10 commercial buildings and 10,000 people with roads, shopping and such take up about the same amount of space in LA as they would in say Dallas.

This appears to only include Dallas/Arlington and Fort Worth. It seems there would be at least another mill if you counted the Northern/Southern burbs around the metroplex. Where's GoPadge, I bet he has already tallied this up....:-)

Amazing, NY and surrounding areas are 3x our size. It's no wonder I feel like a hillbilly when I go there...
The Dallas MSA includes 12 counties; Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, Denton, Ellis and more so there you go.

You're darn right I've tallied it. But SMUboy86 beat me to posting.

Useless trivia, "Dallas–Fort Worth–Arlington metropolitan area" is a US Census bureau designation for the Metroplex. It encompasses 9,249 square miles (bigger than the state of New Jersey) and includes Collin, Dallas, Delta, Denton, Ellis, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant and Wise counties.
