If you haven't already heard, TxDot is planning to build a 240 mile long loop around DFW Metro. The plan is estimated to cost around 30 billion.
Discuss.

Let them get finished with SH 190 first. I doubt seriously if I will see Loop 9 in my lifetime.

It's inevitable - with growth, new roads are built. Growth isn't stopping here anytime soon.

Well, from what I've heard, They plan for it to be finished in 2017, and thats not even 10 years, or it could just be this section.
This is only the south section!

Great idea Dallas, propose a new highway to encourage more sprawl when the cost of every type of energy is going up.

You didn't hear? Dallas seceded from Texas and now does their own thing.

Back to the topic. HELLO!!!! This is OLD news. Loop 9 is what we all called Hwy 190 aka George Bush Turnpike LOOOOOONG before it was even constructed. This "highway" has been on the books for the State of Texas since the 1960's. Nothing new here at all. As for it being completed by 2017........ RIGHT! I've got some ocean front property to sell .

FYI, this wasn't designed to encourage sprawl but it was designed to provide an outer loop for those that need to get from A to B without having to congest the city center. Dallas isn't the only city in the world to have such an outer loop. Besides, if all of the transplants didn't demand to live out in podunkville a 100 miles from the Dallas City Limits these wouldn't be needed. But they keep flocking here and wanting a house WAY out there in the far flung burbs in what were once small farm towns. Can't blame all of this sprawl on Dallas or Dallasites.

Same here. I still say "190" and probably always well. Now, I do call 6-35 "LBJ". Guess when we stop feeling like we need to "memorialize" politicians we can stop renaming highways or giving them their second or third name. Wonder how much money was spent to put up all of the new signage on 190 so that it said, "Pres. George Bush Turnpike"? And we wonder why this country is in trouble.........
