Yep I remember when most apartments in the DFW area was "adult only". You had to look pretty hard for one that accepted kids.

low income subsidized or hud housing can be owned by private parties or housing authorities. the laws haven't changed to disallow renting to seniors only, in these types of housing- rather the owners voluntarily change their programs.
in the non-subsidized market rate apartments, owners do have to rent to anyone regardless of family status, if the units are big enough, and the people otherwise qualify. This law changed because people with kids couldn't find any housing at all. How would you like that for you and your kids?
But there are actually hud programs where the private or public apt owners can opt to offer housing to seniors only; the 55+ programs. if anyone is looking for that, lookup hud on the web, find some via their links.
If you were utterly impoverished, through disability, old age, lack of family, injury, abandonment by a nasty drunk abusive husband, etc, you would much rather have an option to apply for some kind of housing help, than to be left to die on the street or rent a shack with cracks in the walls or whatever. it can happen to anyone, even you- don't doubt it for a second-- and some people have to be reduced to such circumstances before they develop any kind of understanding or compassion on other american citizens who are in dire circumstances and no other way to provide shelter for themselves or their kids. If people are not made to take care of their own, and people don't have a charitable or christian enough attitude for their neighbor, well then, here comes uncle sam. why? because God cares for these people, even if you don't.

If God cares for these people, why doesn't he take care of them instead of the government having to do it?

Default The should not be section 8 housing anywhere

There should not be section 8 housing period. It just trains people who often had quite and aptitude to begin with to leech off of society for generations.

The owners who wreck social havoc are no better. It is really not free enterprise but more akin to big fat tapeworms.

South Garland was a nice place at one time., many areas have been wrecked or seriously damaged by Section 8 housing in the metroplex.

I know of an example where the mostly illegal even had a conflict with Section 8, the mostly illegals would go to work, and the section 8 people would steal their things and even take pot shots in thier direction. The illegals may have ultimately ran off the section 8 people via social conflict.

There stores including a Walmart Grocery in NE Dallas that were closed due to shoplifting from the section 8 denizens causing older people to have to travel further now that thier favorite stores are closing.

Handing out free or semi free housing and just about anything else free can destroy a society.

There are people who complain about big banks, and others complaining about taxes, but who is willing to complain about these Section 8? We do have to pay at least some taxes to have a reasonable society, and banking services to tend to be and activity between consenting adults.

Not so for Section 8.

Agreed...what ICP does needs to be illegal. The racist claims are laughable. If you can't afford to live somewhere you do not get to live there.I would like to live in Highland park.I can not afford a million dollar house.Mine is worth half that.Should I accept the people of Highland Park to build an apartment complex so I can live there and send my children to the chools that their tax dollars pay for? They can pay for their mortgage and $80,000 in taxes every year and I can live down the block from them for $400 a month.

ABSURD

The problem is running out of other peoples money. Anyone who really cares about others can use thier own money and resources such as I do and many others. Charity is one of the better virtues. Section 8 is largely a cancer on society.

Its an open secret in peer reviewed urban research what HUD is doing to the suburbs. Memphis is bad due to the gangs that are entrenched.

American Murder Mystery - Magazine - The Atlantic

A good lawyer could form a class action lawsuit on behalf of victims of crime due to this. Just a matter of time.

Memphis is now a rough place.

Stealing is wrong if it is via ballot box or kicking in a door.

I have wondered for years about class action suits regarding the Pets who live in section 8 running amuk murdering, raping etc.

I have wondered why no judical gang has taken down any of those landlords.

Peel the onion back and Find that Uncle Sugar is major player. The tenants are a "class" using Marxist logic. The underclass can be very important allies of and "overclass" There voting and even not voting can be used to "manufacture consent"

Many of the landlords give donations to local politicos as well. Often likely less then the cost of Elliot Spitzer's call girls....

It is true many of the leeches do have jobs and some do not even commit that many crimes. Some large employers and smaller ones as well, pay lower wages and little or know bennies. So thier pets can live in section 8, get food stamps and who cares how much it costs medical care.

This is really a "tapeworm" economy, and no one really likes tapeworms large or small.

In many ways the fix is already in.

Section 8 is alot like a burst appendix when projects have largely been town down.

It does not take and afficianado of Aristotle's logic to realize not all poor people are violent criminals, but most violent crimnals are poor.

A good point would be to distinguish between honest dignified poor who work and make thier own way in society vs leaches and violent thugs.
Same as with wealthy people, many do work much harder or smarter then average and contribute much to society. But don't let the rich trash skate. I remember POS was stealing from the dead on battlefields of the Napoleonic Wars, the author suggested in another time and place he might think of himself as the Apex of the Social Order.
