Thank you both momof2dfw and FalconheadWest for answering my question on the brick.

so I too chose the boral western sunset brick, only have the same thing happen within 6 months. The brick began to chip and grew worse by the months. long story short, the builder deemed the brick defective and Boral replaced the entire brick around my home. I'm not positive, but I think the builder removed this selection of brick from it's program. I don't think I could have successfully pleaded my case if it wasn't for the contributors and the information on this forum. Always get in touch with someone higher up, because the rock falls heavier from the top.

Glad you were able to get it fixed. I have buyers closing on a house tomorrow where the neighboring house is the Western Sunset. I really want to knock on their door, but it's none of my business if they're happy with their house...

Ugh. My house completes later this month, and has Western Sunset. Hope it was just a bad batch. I'll have to keep a close eye it...

Hi I live in sachse tx and have the boral western sunset also. I notice chipping in the bricks but we already moved in our new home over a year now. Am I still under warranty and who should I contact? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Contact your builder, and if they won't help, contact Boral. Your brick has a warranty and it's more than 1 year.

Just contact my builder and they say they will get with the sale rep for Boral and have him call me. Man the house just past it 1 yr anniversary. I notice the chips before but never really thought much of it till I found this link. Wish I would have brought this up last month when I was still under the 1 yr bumper to bumper. Ohh well guess I have to just wait till they Boral rep contach me...thanks

Wow, I just moved in to my home in May and about a month ago noticed that the brick (yep, Boral Western Sunset) looked like it was chipping everywhere.

I've had the builder and a rep from the manufacturer come over today (after the builder told us it was just the brick and we insisted that if that was true they need to give us a statement in writing to that effect and give us evidence that what they were saying was true). They've once again tried to convince us it was just a normal thing that happens with brick. When we pointed out that none of the neighbor's houses had similar issues with their brick, they told us they were going to escalate it and bring out another expert to take a look. Now that I've seen these posts, I'm going to make sure I insist and they get this fixed.

Bricks used here are just veneer so just cosmetic stuff as framing is wood regardless of finishing material. According to my experience good builders do use good brick, stucco etc. but most importantly they do quality installation. Almost all of the horror stories you hear about vinyl siding, hardiplank, brick, stone, stucco etc have builders cutting corners by buying cheap material or using non skilled installers.

I bought a home in 1971 that used Chicago Reclaimed Brick and am glad that I did. Found out that in Dallas a lot of inferior brick was sold so you have to be careful.

I wish you luck but it sounds like you got some bad brick from your description.
