Texas isn't the only place with Blue Laws. Up until a couple years ago, liquor sales on Sunday were prohibited in Colorado. You still cannot buy a car on Sunday there, either, and Colorado is pretty far-removed from the Bible Belt.

At least they got rid of the stupid Unicard down here.

You can't buy beer in most grocery stores and convenience stores unless you can also buy liquor in the area. For instance, in most of North Dallas there is no beer in grocery stores or 7-11s--you have to go to Addison. However, Inwood Rd in Addison has at least a dozen liquor stores to get your liquor fix.

Are Plano, Frisco, McKinney, and The Colony also dry?

There is a Goody Goody liquor store in The Colony on Hwy 121. GG has some of the best prices around and should be a quick commute from most of those areas.

Plano allows beer and wine, I'm not sure about the other cities.

Canine,

Yes, I'm a "drinker" and have a full bar that I do plan accordingly to keep stocked. But before DH and I started entertaining at the level we do now, it was a bit ol PITA to want to bake a kahula cake and not be able to run to the store to grab some at will.

Just because someone is a "drinker" doesn't mean that they are addicted and need a "fix."

Most of the area cities have held elections to allow beer/wine sales. It did not make financial sense for municipalities to see large amounts of their potential sales tax dollars headed across the border to the cities that had already voted it in.

When I lived in Garland, I would buy in Plano, then Richardson. And if I were planning a party, holiday dinner, or just needed groceries at the same time, I would do all of my shopping in the city I could make one stop. So Garland was losing not only my beer/wine sales, but also my grocery sales as well.

For the most part the patchwork is gone, with a few smaller municipalities and some cities where the lobbyists have gotten a foothold left.

The sooner these tamborine-shaking Baptists realize this, the better. Funny thing is that Dallas proper is now a Catholic-majority city and they love to drink.

You are absolutely right about the groceries too. We live in Addison, so we have whatever we want, but we are buying a house in Plano. As long as they sell beer and wine, were ok. We rarely buy other alcoholic beverages. Hopefully there are liquor stores close by for when we need this.
