Dallas just banned smoking in bars in the past year or so. However, there are many adjacent towns in the Metroplex that are not as progressive.

I was having lunch in a restaurant with a bar area in Lewisville last month and was SHOCKED to see/smell people smoking in the bar not 15 feet from my table. Gross!!

You can smoke in the bar area at Flying Saucer. They don't have a full German menu, but they offer a decent Brat/Kraut/ and German potato salad. Great selection of brews and a great atmosphere. Luckily, I'll be moving a mile or so from there in a few weeks when we move to Dallas.

I'm going to bookmark this thread because I need to find some good bars to go to myself. Looking forward to trying the old monk or whatever it's called.

yelp.com is a great tool as well.
