Hey all!!

I need some suggestions for a cheap (even used) furniture store in Dallas.

I need a place that delivers...since I have a compact car and live on a second floor. I am looking for cheap stuff items like a dresser, desk, couch, tables and chairs...but all of the furniture stores seem very upscale. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure if it would be something you're looking for, but IKEA delivers and has relatively inexpensive furniture. Also, CraigsList was really helpful when I was trying to clear out some of my furniture...and I delivered to the buyers' home.

Salvation Army
Genesis has a store on Lemmon- proceeds go towards Genesis Women's Shelter
There are many consignment stores where you can get great quality furniture for a good price. Lots are near the Park Cities & Preston Hollow neighborhoods & are nice stuff, just not nice enough for estate sales.
JCPenney has good quality and reasonable prices. Much better quality than Ikea/ Target / Wal-Mart, but if you need furniture that will only last a few years, those three stores should be on your list.

Check "free-cycling" websites where you can go pick up stuff for FREE so people don't have to throw away or pay the city to pick up. Surely you have one friend with a SUV who can help.

Also keep in mind that college only has a couple of weeks left in the semester. The kids will be packing up and heading out. You would be surprised (honestly) how many leave good furniture just sitting by the dumpster! I am not kidding - our son did that and we almost died when we found out!

best bet is probably to order on-line since you need it delivered too. I found some good deals on www.bricklewood.com and they have free shipping and returns. Also, check JCPenney online clearance, and www.overstock.com

There's a good place on Skillman just north of Live Oak (consignment). You can also try Century Modern near you on Main in Deep Ellum.

If you're looking for quality but great prices we like to go upstairs at Weirs in Plano. That's their close-out and scratch and dent show room. And contrary to all the other posts, they will deliver. (people should read) We bought a dining room table with 2 leaves and 10 chairs for under $200.00. We even got them to recover one of the chairs.

Other than that, some consignment stores are good but often over priced Garage Sale stuff but they deliver.

If your looking for quality antique reproductions then check out Sutton Place in downtown Plano, and they deliver. (and you won't be burning money either!)

Oh yes, HAGGLE!!! with them. They will come down on the price tag!!
