Additional funding for the planned Woodall Rodgers Park; which will connect downtown Dallas' Arts District to Uptown, was approved. Construction is underway. This may be part of the reason for the recent news reguarding marketing efforts for Museum Tower.

Woodall Rodgers Park Just Got Stimulated

By Robert Wilonsky in News You Can Actually Use, Actually
Thursday, Mar. 26 2009 @ 10:03AM

A more recently updated conceptual rendering of the Woodall Rodgers ParkI had intended to watch the Texas Transportation Commission meeting this morning -- it's being Webcast over here, for those so interested -- because among the agenda items for this morning was approving stimulus dough for those so-called "shovel-ready projects" 'round the state, among them the Woodall Rodgers Deck Park. Here you'll see TxDOT was scheduled to vote on putting $16.7 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act monies toward the $43 million construction price tag.

Word is, it just got the okee-doke. Joanna Singleton, in the Dallas office of PR firm Jackson Spalding, sends that word:
The vote at the Texas Transportation Committee meeting just came in ... and the Woodall Rodgers Park was just awarded $16.7 million in stimulus funds! This is a significant boost for a landmark project that will have a long-lasting positive impact on the quality of life in Dallas. A full press release will come very shortly! ... The construction workers are literally "shovel ready" completing the infrastructure for the deck park.

It's so shovel ready, it's had construction going on for over a month already - I believe existing utilities are being rerouted so the rest of the project can get underway (just emphasizing the "construction is underway" comment above).

This project is indeed a very cool project. Having an open highway between Uptown and Downtown is a very effective barrier to foot traffic (not to mention an eyesore). I believe this project had approximately $30 million in funding already - part from the city of Dallas, part from private donations. This incremental funding from the stimulus package will fund all the extras in the park.

I can't wait to see this project completed - a true signature park connecting the Arts District to Uptown will surely improve the "downtown experience".

I think its a great project. I work in the area and have to admit that there are many tourists in the Arts District and Uptown area. This will be a nice oasis between both zones.

I only hope you dont feel like you are on a bridge. That moving/unstable sensation.

Now if we can only get started on the Trinity Park...this city will be starting to take a great shape.
