I'm looking for a nice venue for my partner's surprise 32nd birthday next month. I had thought about chartering a streetcar on McKinney Avenue, but the surprise was spoiled. Are there any ideas for a fun night out with 20 friends? Something unique and close to downtown Dallas. Could be a gallery/private club rental or something more casual like bowling or skating (but in a clean, non-smoking environment). We'll probably cater food and could have a DJ. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

The Wine Therapist at Skillman and Live Oak will let you bring in your own caterer - they will also let you play your own music via iPod connection.

You could hop from place to place in Bishop Arts.

Tillman's has a great room in the back for a group.

Head over to Dude Sweet for unique chocolates including a great hot chocolate.

You also could rent a space from Good Space - I think they have some empty gallery spaces available to rent for a night.

And have a DJ

DJ Mark Ridlin is the best! If you get in touch with him he can probably give you a lot of options.

Ditto on Tillman's "peacock" themed private dining room.

Times Ten Cellars in Lakewood has a party building next door. You can bring in your own cake/ food/ etc or order in from nearby restaurants. You can also rent the inside some nights, too.

For children of the 1980's (which your partner certainly was), White Rock Skate Center is a total time trip and soooo much fun! You can rent old-school skates or in-line ones, music is 80's and current, there's a bar and you can bring in cake, etc.

There is a giant bowling place in addision called 300 Dallas. Really fun.

If you desire a good meal, good music and lots of drinks, we like Soho in Addison to eat.
