Hello all

My family and I will be relocating to Dallas from Las Vegas very soon. Just wanted to see what people thought about Wylie for living and schools. I will be working in Irving near the airport, I know that there will be a bit of a commute, after living and working in LA and sitting in traffic for hours on end, how bad can it be?

Thanks in advance

That is a LONG drive when there are plenty of other communities closer to Irving. Schools are good, but as I posted on another thread, the school taxes are disproportionately high ($1.59). And the Wylie municipal tax rate is also substantially higher than other area cities ($.90).

Even as a new Wylie resident (just moved here from Bay Area, California) who loves and pimps it every chance I get, I also think Wylie to Irving is a LONG commute. If you are dead set on it, luckily you can basically use the Bush turnpike most of the way which does not have much traffic at all, but of course it will get expensive.

My new job here has a commute of 25 miles which brings me into Dallas and takes about 40 minutes, but then again I don't get to use the Bush turnpike the whole way. You would probably be looking at 40-45 minutes each way since it takes 15-20 minutes just to get to Bush turnpike from Wylie, and then another 20-25 minutes (With no traffic and like i said, there is hardly any traffic on Bush turnpike).

As I am learning now, Wylie is a great place to live and is known for good schools. Great for families, you might enjoy the historic downtown in Ballard st. and of course, the affordable housing, you get total bang for your buck and Wylie has Verizon FIOS which is great for TV and/or internet.

We live in Wylie. It takes my husband about 45 min to get to his office in Irving. Wylie is nice. Our neighborhood, Seis Lagos, is really lovely. Large lots. Pretty lakes. Worth the drive to us.
