I'm planning a date night with the wife for tonight and I'm interested in getting the impossible. A good steak in a restuarant with a nice atmosphere, but without a heavy price. Do any of these look like good choices? (Texas Land and Cattle is more the price range I'm looking for.)

Of the one's you listed, my favorite (by far) is Chamberlain's. Their steaks are as good as the high end cow palaces (III Forks, Del Frisco's), but you get sides with the meat for similar prices. Great service and ambiance as well.

If you are looking to go a little lower, pricewise, I'd go with The Keg. Decent steaks, much nicer atmosphere than TLC. TLC would be below the bottom of my list.

I've only been to Texas Land and Ruth's Chris for steaks -- both are a little too 'chain' for me. But Texas Land is definitely cheaper. Sullivan's - I've been to the bar but that is it. I've heard it's a lot slower now.

My fave is: http://www.albiernats.com/

Yep, it's a bit pricey but you can cut down on the extras and drinks - it's astounding how that man will know your name even if you only come in every few months or even years. Plus a lot of celebs and sports figures to people watch - the atmosphere alone is worth the money. I dream about their steaks sometimes. Yikes I'm salivating...

http://www.kirbyssteakhouse.com/ is good too and less expensive. The original (sort of) is on Lower Greenville across from the Granada Theater.

I've also been to Del Frisco's up north but they kind of screwed up my birthday celebration (ok there were at least 20) so I haven't been back.

My favorite place for steaks, hands down, is Bob's Steak and Chop House. There's one on Lemmon, in Dallas, and one in Plano now, too.

STOP!!!!!!!!! OMYGOSH, I'm hungry now. And hubby was just saying earlier we need a date night as it is long overdue. Hmmmm. Bob's is my favorite too. I also like Pappas Bros. Ruths Chris, sorry but on a weekend night and people are coming in dressed in shorts and t-shirts it just loses it for me. Eddie's in Frisco (no longer ) was really good too. SilverFox is also another one up there. But if you want the reasonable price and no extra fluff in atmosphere the best steak is the Maudene's Filet at Salt Grass. I love their bread too.

Oh, you forgot Kirby's. That is a long standing great steak place in Dallas. Trulucks also has some great steaks.

I haven't been to Bob's Steak and Chop House in a long time. I remember it being very good. Now I'm hungry for a good steak. :-)

Dunstons use to be good. It wasn't anything fancy but they had a mean steak. I'm not even sure if there is a Dunstons still around.

I personally don't get out much other than kid friendly places. I hear though that Ruth Chris is the best.

As for the Plano Tavern it is really good but I wouldn't call it a steak house. I love their mashed potato dish. Yummy.

We're really spoiled in Grapevine...we have Bob's, Saltgrass, Silver Fox AND Kirby's!! For the price, I will agree that my favorite is Saltgrass. If price is no object, then I pick Kirby's.

Now see, I've eaten at the Salt Grass in Arlington and wasn't impressed at all.

We ended up trying the Texas Land and Cattle on 75. (Convince and price won out over atmosphere.) It was your typically chain store atmosphere, but the smoked sirloin with grilled shrimp were wonderful! I appreciate everyone's suggestions and will keep them on my short list of places to try.
