Here is my situation in a nutshell:

gf works in downtown ft worth, I work in plano on legacy.

We are looking to move to one of those areas in Dallas (we've been in Ft Worth for 6 months now and the commute for me is terrible). Looking for the best area or best free/highway to get on to get to downtown Fort Worth for my gf's commute. My commute diminishes by 30 minutes already by doing this, so I am wanting to take hers into consideration.

(we're both from Houston, so don't know the area too well. especially Dallas as we've been in Ft Worth)

I guess what areas get congested out of 75, 35E, and 30 the most

I-30 is the most direct freeway between Downtown Dallas and Downtown FTW.

yeah, but we'd have to live more on the outskirts of those areas I listed if we wanted to get right on I-30...

so what's the better way to get onto 30 in the morning and get back in the evening? 75 or 35E? (or any other road I don't know about)

I-30 borders Downtown Dallas on the south side. You can access it from St. Paul St. if you're coming from the middle of Downtown. For access to I-30 west from Victory Park, you just take Lamar to Industrial Blvd. There is an entrance to I-30 off of Industrial. Uptown is a large area, so the best way to get to I-30 really depends on where you live in Uptown. You might have to first get on 75 or Woodall Rodgers freeway and connect to I-30.

Are you aware of the alternative way to get between the Downtown areas of both cities? She could take the train to work Trinity Railway Express (TRE). It might take longer than driving (depending on time of day), but it's a much less stressful way to go.

Yeah looked into the TRE and Dart, but she'd have to walk to work some and we don't feel comfortable doing that as her area of work isn't the best part of town haha

Just curious, have you considered other cities that truly split the difference in your commutes (hers to Ft. Worth AND yours to Plano)?

Grapevine, Coppell and Irving all come to mind for that, if that interests you at all.

We have a lot of friends in the Dallas area and are both in are younger 20 and want to experience a more urban lifestyle. We did consider the other areas you mentioned but eventually concluded with Dallas.

Well, it sounds like they're fairly recent college grads and they probably don't want to be out in the sticks.... Uptown is a fairly central location. Commute to Legacy Drive in Plano from the Harry Hines entrance to the Tollroad is about 30-35 minutes of reverse commuting.

To get to Ft Worth, it's best to use side streets to get to I-30W since the 30/35 mix can be fairly slow-going. You can cut through downtown Dallas and take Commerce Street west and then a Left on Beckley or Sylvan to hit I-30. If you live in the more northern part of Uptown, Wycliff turns into Sylvan once you cross the Trinity and that will take you straight to I-30. If traffic is moving 35 to 30 is the fastest/ most direct route. You definitely do not want to use 75 to Woodall to 30 or 75 to 45 to 30- that could take forever! Depending on where her office is in FW, you will probably have fairly equal commutes. Hers may be 5-10 min longer.

We're gonna be looking into uptown. Looking for a new/modern apartment complex located in a nice and young populated part of town and was told uptown was the place to go.... just worried it may be TOO out of our price range.
