It is just heart wrenching that a boy so young would feel the need to take his own life. Schools do not take bullying seriously unless you have a school shooting. A little teasing is one thing, but these days its cruel and relentless. Parents need to think long and hard about what behavior they consider acceptable. Too often I hear the excuse that is normal or its just what kids do, but that does not make it right.

Even if it's not bullying related, I think parents are in denial that youngsters can be depressed.

The government keeps statistics on how many kids committ suicide, starting at age 5. It's amazing to me how such young kids can be so depressed. Very sad for everyone.

Here's an update:
Sudden, tragic impulse led to boy's suicide, family says | News for Dallas, Texas | Dallas Morning News | Columnist Jacquielynn Floyd | Dallas-Fort Worth News

It says the boy had ADHD and had recently spent 2 weeks in alternative school and the family thinks the suicide was just an impulsive thing done by a hyper boy. He was sent to the office for back talking a substitute. It sounds like the other kids liked him even though he was a bit annoying.

Just so tragic...

I wonder if he was on medication for the ADHD. I think that most of those meds have side effects like depression. The alternative schools are for really troubled kids and spending 2 weeks there could have pushed him over the edge. I heard on an interview that some kids were making fun of his name "Montana" and calling him "Hannah Montana". Kids can be so cruel

There was a tv show on CBS last week "criminal minds" that had a theme of hanging with a belt by teenagers playing some kind of dare game. I was kind of creepy but I hope that kids didn't get ideas from that.
