Hate to burst everyone's bubble but the tool they measured to take this was "Advanced Placement, Intl. Baccalaureate and/or Cambridge tests taken by all students at a school in 2007 divided by the number of graduating seniors"

How more lame can you get? It doesn't measure anything, but the number of kids who show up to take the exam. Says nothing about RESULTS! If I could start a charter school and make sure eveyone took the exam, I'd be on the list. Go figure... this guy is an idiot if that's how he measure how well schools perform... and he writes from newsweek.. geez... guess they'll hire anyone.

OK as long as you say the same thing about TAKS. But not every school has wide participation in AP/IB, so this would winnow down to those which do offer a successful program.

You can de-bunk the stats that make up the listing...BUT...the reality is that only 20% of 8th grade students in the US have the scores to even consider applying to the School of Science and Engineering. From that pool, they take only the elite.

Kids who are successful at Science and Engineering are fully prepared to enter MIT or Cal Tech - directly from high school...often with scholarship. One such boy is currently at MIT paying 10% of the yearly tuition.

The entrance requirements at TAG are slightly higher than SEM.

Either way, these schools have spectacular students.

I'm sure all of these schools have great students, but to rank the TOP HIGH SCHOOLS IN THE COUNTRY based on this is a joke. There are better ways and more factors that go into it. Again, taking a test means nothing more than showing up.

I suppose you think you can get dumb students to pay the fee and show up?

BTW mom I see Garland did well on the list -- um now where is Frisco?

Keep in mind when they do college ratings it include number of trees on campus.

Yes, that was not a joke, but the ratings tend to be.

Real thing it shows is that it is money that matters. The students are funded in the top Dallas ISD schools 3 to 4 times what the bottom end schools are. This is the Big House on the Plantation in action. While the Plantation suckth, the Big House is always nice. If you are in you in it is Golden. If you are in the field hand turf -- well it sucks being you. The vast numbers are not in blessed path, and are totally screwed.

YOU WOULD BE SURPRISD HOW GOOD OF PR IT IS FOR A SCHOOL TO BE RANKED UP THERE. PLUS MANY OF AFFLUENT AREAS, I BET THEY CAN JUST HAVE PEOPLE PAY AND SHOW UP. HOW ABOUT RESULTS OF THE TEST? SAT TEST? SOMETHING? REALLY - THE AUTHOR OF THE ARTICLE IS ON THE BRINK OF RETARDATION. THOSE LOCAL TO THE AREA KNOW WHAT SCHOOLS ARE THE BEST - THE ONES I KNOW LOCALLY ON THERE... THEY'RE A JOKE.. FULL OF RICH KIDS OR HAND-PICKED SMARTIES. OF COURSE THEY ALL TAKE THE EXAM..

The way I understand payment for the AP exam is that it's based on income - so if the student participates in the free lunch program, their AP test is free.

NOT SURE IF THAT IS THE CASE, BUT REGARDLESS, THE ARTICLE IS A SHAM.
