I'm a 22 year old city girl from Chicago who is being relocated to Dallas in June. I've been looking at locations and I think I've narrowed it down to Uptown. I don't know which apartments complexes which would be
Budget is around $800-1400 for a 1 BR. I was looking into The Element Dallas; does anyone have any other recommendations?

I'm also interested to know about the lifestyle for a young professional down in Texas. What is there to do on the weekends?

Any information is really appreciated!

The Element is downtown in the Main Street District, not Uptown. You can find an entire list here: Residences | Downtown Dallas

Uptown is the most expensive of the downtown neighborhoods, but also has more bars/shops/nightlife. State Thomas is a neighborhood in Uptown that is a bit quieter but still close to all the action along McKinney. The Main Street District is in the business district and has a mix of historic lofts and luxury apartments. Deep Ellum has a lot of old warehouse lofts, bars and art galleries.

It depends what you want... traditional apartment, loft, luxury? What kind of neighborhood are you looking for? Party place, artsy, quiet, trendy, etc? You'll be able to afford most 1 bedroom places for that price range.

Thanks so much for getting back to me! I'm looking for I guess what you could call "party place". Although I'm not the party all night type of person, I do like to go out occasionally, and enjoy being in the heart of the hustle and bustle of things. I figure it might be easier to meet people this way. What do you suggest?

thanks again for your feedback. Very helpful so far!

Post has several properties in Uptown. We almost moved into one of them but the kitchen and stoarge was too small for us, and it was a little pricey for our budget. With your budget, you should be ok. I would recommend if you take an apartment hunting trip, make an appointment to see one of the Post reps and they'll take you around to all their uptown properties (several in a few block radius). My wife has 2 co-workers that live at Post Worthington on McKinney and Worthington. It is super close to a lot of great bars and restaurants.

Good luck in the search!

Here's a link about Uptown. The map is kinda funky in a lousy sort of way. There's a link to residential properties and includes the Post properties Mr. Bungle mentioned. Uptown runs, basically, between Turtle Creek and highway US 75, from next to downtown up to Highland Park and very near to SMU. The main drag along that strip is McKinney Ave.

Uptown was a run down area very near to downtown but has been refurbished with new construction. It is the fashionable place to live and with your budget you should do well. It's full of apartments, condos and townhomes and restaurants, shopping, a theatre, a trolley that goes downtown for those mint julep kind of days. You can check google maps for zip code 75219 for the general area which will include Oak Lawn. The one in Dallas.

If you're undecided about where to live, Uptown is a good place to start.

Gables Villa Rosa is the hot spot right now- best pool in Uptown! Very nice luxury apartments that are probably 2 (??) years old.

The Ashton is also an upscale party building. It's a high rise walking distance from the American Airlines Center, Stanley Korshak for your designer shopping fix, the bar @ the Ritz, etc. Many former Bachelor/ Bachelorette contestants live in the building.

Pretty much any apartment along McKinney between Pearl and Blackburn would also fit the bill.

My boyfriend and I recently moved from the Chicago area to Dallas for jobs after graduation, we are both 23. We signed a short term lease on a place in Las Colinas when we first got here a few months ago but we are moving into the Thirty377 apartments in Uptown at the end of April! We are really excited about it! Feel free to IM me if you want information about them or if you want to chat about moving from Chicago to Dallas!

Suggestion...

While you're there, drive the distance. Don't just pop into a couple of apartments and make a decision.

Get on McKinney and drive north at least as far as Knox or just beyond. It's a one way street so next, go a block over to Cole and drive back as least as far as Pearl.

This will give you an overview of the entire "." Uptown/State/Thomas/Knox "." neighborhood. There are some other streets but this is the main drag. If you have time, cross over Turtle Creek into Oak Lawn. Or just drive along Turtle Creek Blvd. Or get on the jogging trail and take a walk.

By time you get back to Chi-town you'll have a better idea of where you're headed.

Stay away from Reverchon Park after dark.
