Hi all,

Our three-year-old is interested in taking swim lessons -- something I think is a pretty good idea since the warm weather will be here before we know it. We're looking for an indoor swim school where she can have fun and while becoming more water safe. Here in Coppell (where we live), I've found that the Y offers some classes. But, before I signed her up, I wanted to see if there were any other programs in the area that were worth checking out. We'd love to find something within a 15-minute drive that offers classes on Saturdays...any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Check out the city of Coppell Aquatics center programs & schedules. They have those great pools at Andy Brown Park and should offer many kids swim programs.

Rakin -- Thanks for mentioning the Aquatic Center...they do have a lot to offer! The only thing is that we were hoping for a Saturday class since both my husband and I work some long hours during the week. (The Aquatic Center has lots of T/Th and M/W classes, but nothing on the weekend for her age group.)

Any other suggestions?

Our 3 yr old took swim lessons with Lone Star Swim School in Coppell this past summer and had a really good experience. While it isn't indoors, it is run by a local Coppell family and the lessons are semi-private (only 2 kids per lesson). If you are interested you can find more info at Lone Star Swim School

speaking from what I heard a friend's daughter with a boy who was taking lessons at the Y in Bedford--further east than what you are checking--but still the Y--
she was disappointed with the classes--her son has been in water because grandmother has pool
the Y put him in class based on his age not experience--several children--not a 1to1 type situation--mom thought the instructor was not that experienced in teaching younger children
she did not finishe the class-thought it was not improving her son's skills
she started private lessons at woman's home -- she got reference from friend in her mom's group
woman promises to teach all young children how to save themselves if they fall into a pool--so she works with teaching them how to right themselves, float on their backs, and other things

mom thought that was worthwhile--boy did it before he was two--supposedly he can stay afloat even with clothes and learned to turn himself on his back and float...

Emser Swim School was big in the Colleyville area--they have moved from the Hwy 26 location to Southlake one right where 1709 crosses 114
there is one in Plano as well
Emler Swim School : SwimScript Curriculum (http://www.iswimemler.com/program/ - broken link)
they offer indoor swimming so you don't have to wait for summer

Thank you everyone for your input! After checking out all the options (and locations), we picked AquaKids in Flower Mound. We start lessons next week, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed -- kiddo is super excited about going!

Just wanted to do a quick follow-up and let everyone know that we had a great experience with AquaKids...first lesson was last night. The set up is nice. Good building. Comfortable observation room for parents. Fun teacher. The lesson was 30 minutes long and my kiddo did NOT want to leave afterwards -- she was having too much fun!

I'd also highly recommend joining a community swim team when your child is old enough--just one summer will turn them into a very strong swimmer. Much stronger than swim class, in my opinion.
