We are looking to move soon and would like some advice on the best cities/communities to live in. I work from home so commute isn't a factor. Price range 250-300k, good schools, reasonable taxes, and close to shopping/restaurants. We have considered Keller and Frisco. What are pros/cons of each and any other recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks

Frankly you probably have more access to restaurants/shopping in the Frisco area than in Keller

If you are working from home, I assume it is a telecommute or something internet related?

If so, having reliable internet is a key consideration. You should make sure where-ever you live has Verizon FIOS service available, so you can have the best dependable internet in the area. Some areas of Frisco have it. Keller definitely has it (first city in the nation to have Verizon FIOS internet). So do parts of Plano, Allen, Irving, Murphy, Wylie, Sachse, Rowlett, Garland, etc.

When you do find houses you want to look at, you should check out this link:
Verizon | FiOS Internet | Check Availability

You can type in the address and find out if that address has FIOS available. Considering you work from home, it might be a key decision for you to live in a FIOS area.

Assuming you can get into a FIOS area in Frisco, I'd say that it probably better than Keller for what you want. More shopping and restaurant options in Frisco itself, and it's simply straight down the Tollway into more options in Plano, Addison, and finally Dallas.

I would recommend the 1950s and 60s ranch homes near Mockingbird and Abrams and Skillman in 75214 and 75206. They are around 2,000 square feet. If you go to the south you might find some 1940s nascent ranch style homes with a Tudor or Colonial flair. Not as large and a bit more pricey. Anyhow they are all extremely well-built in an area bound to appreciate with great schools and unparalleled access to transportation, shopping and restaurants. A straight shot out of SMU / Park Cities east on Mockingbird past Mockingbird Station over to White Rock Lake. If you go north of the DART line/Katy Trail Expansion east of Abrams be sure to watch the school attendance zones.

Frisco is a mecca for shopping and dining. You can eat out every day for 30 days and never eat at the same place twice. The tax rate is one of the lowest around either at 2.14 in Collin county and 2.10 in Denton county, Keller is 2.47. You can travel to downtown Dallas through the Dallas North tollway or to downtown Fort Worth and airport through highway 121 also a tollway in less than an hour for both destinations. Lots of sporting events, concerts taking place in Frisco too. The schools are excellent too.

I really liked Allen when I visited. Seemed like a great place to raise a family.

Of the places you mentioned, personally I would pick Keller but Frisco definitely has alot more restaurants and there is big mall (Stonebriar) and shopping galore.

Aren't they or were they going to build a mall off of I-35 in Keller/North FW? I thought they were going to at one point. Does anyone know?
