Both districts are good IMO but Allen has only 1 mega highschool with over 5000 students and don't have the intention of building another one any time soon.

Well, I don't know that Plano fares much better by that standard.

Plano has 3 mega-schools, one of which (Plano West) will likely have a enrollment of over 3200 for TWO grades in a few years.

Both Plano and Allen are excellent districts. Plano ISD holds particular appeal for the Indian and Chinese communities, and its tippy-top graduates routinely attend Ivy League schools. TODAY, I would rate Plano ISD over Allen ISD. I suspect that, 5 or 10 years down the line, as Plano ages, Allen ISD will be preferred.

You can't go wrong with either district. Having said that, if I were moving to DFW today, and had no concern about commute times, I'd probably give the nod to Allen ISD.

Such a difficult question to answer - so here is another question - how do you define "better" ? I think that word means different things to different people. It could mean better -

Academically
Sports - football, hockey, basketball, swimming
Music/Band
Theatre
TAKS Results (Texas Standardized Tests)
SAT scores
Special Ed programs
Gifted Programs
International Baccalaureate Programs
Age of schools
Size of schools

Both Plano and Allen ISD have good school districts - check out their district/school ratings at the Texas Education Agency - Texas Education Agency - Welcome to the Texas Education Agency

As already noted by a previous poster, both districts have big high schools, and comparable programs. How do you decide? Figure out where you might want to live and visit the schools your children will be attending. Ask the opinions of potential neighbors, real estate agents, and co-workers etc..

Good Luck...I live in Allen, if you want to send me a private message, I'd be happy to try and answer any questions you might have about Allen ISD.
