Anything can happen. Even if Chicago has jobs and some people move there, it could still be overtaken in population by some other metro with a stronger growth curve. D-FW has a growth curve, and Chicago has one as well, albeit a weaker one, but extrapolating those curves into the future, they will cross at some point. When they cross, D-FW will have a larger population than metro Chicago.

We all realize that what people say is sometimes different from what they actually do.

In terms of the evaluation of cities (i.e. metro areas), the opinions of people as to which city is better have to be taken with a grain of salt. Especially if the speaker's deeds do not match his words.

If some poster who claims that, for example, Hurleyville is the garden spot of the universe, the obvious question is "If it's so much better, why don't you go there?"

At that point, the lying hypocrite will offer up 3 or 4 excuses and rationalizations as to why he hasn't already high-tailed it to Hurleyville, or whatever other city he thinks is so much better.

As a general rule, the more someone rationalizes his answer, the more questionable it might be.
