Moving from KY and need to go to get my drivers license. Quick questions..

#1...I'm over 18, but no vehicle in my name. Is this a problem? They are in my husbands.

#2....Do we get our drivers license the day we apply for it? I've heard yes and no. I'm wondering how I would go 30 days without photo id/license.

THanks.

#1 - No issue with this. Texas disassociates a passenger vehicle license with vehicles themselves (as most states do).

#2 - As long as you have a valid drivers license, no wants/warrants active, no outstanding tickets in other states, then you will receive it at the time you apply for the license. You might want to pick a less busy area to obtain your license as the lines can potentially be long.

Have they changed it in the past 10 years or so? When I first transferred my license they issued it on the spot. The only time I've had to obtain a temporary paper one is when applying for the CDL license and that was only because they needed a background check.

You do not get your license the day you go in there. You get a paper one with your photo on it. And the legal one comes in about 10 days or so from Austin!

Not sure where you go but that is incorrect. You get your license issued on the spot.....you get a paper copy of your license to hold until your card issued from Austin comes in mail in about 10 days. Just did it with my brother a few months ago when he moved here from out of state.

Been over 10 years since I transferred license here. At that time I received mine on the spot. I know they came out with the newer forge proof licenses. Maybe that's why they don't issue them immediately anymore?

Does anyone know how much license and registration costs now? I'll be moving there next month. Thanks!

License is like $12.00 registration depends on what county you register in. He registered in Dallas County and he has a 2006 Toyota Tacoma and he paid like $188.00 for title, plates and fees.
