Hi all, I am considering moving from Washington State to Texas for a promotion. I will be working in Lancaster, and need some help locating a clean safe area. I am willing to drive up to 45 min. for a great location, but would rather not. Interests for me: reasonable drive for decent bass fishing, smaller towns are great-(I do not care for the big city life) Basically just looking for a calm, laid back area I can feel safe jogging at 2:00AM Thanks in advance for any info.

Respectfully,
Dan

Lake Ridge in Cedar Hill & Grand Prairie comes to mind. It feels like you're in the country but still close to town. It is hilly and many many homes are on 1 acre lots or more.

There are areas in Lancaster, DeSoto, and Cedar Hill that are nice. For smaller communities, then the cities of Glenn Heights, Ferris, Red Oak, and Ovilla may be worth looking into as well.

Are you looking to rent or purchase a home? What is your desired price range? We will be able to better assist you by knowing this information.

I'd look at Ennis, Texas which will get you closer to Richland Chambers Lake.

Thanks for the responses. I'm looking to rent a house or apt. to start and will be looking to buy once I get a personal feel for the area. I just need a place away from the "Ghetto" I don't want to have to look over my shoulder every time I walk down the street. I prefer to keep it around $1,000 or less.

It shouldn't be difficult to find an area like that in any of the communities I suggested. Plus, they are all within a short distance of Joe Pool Lake, which is a popular recreational area.

The OP stated that his job would be in Lancaster, which is south of Dallas. Commuting from north of downtown would be time consuming as that area has more people (he mentions not wanting a 'big city' environment) and more traffic. There are nice neighborhoods in the southern suburbs of Dallas or the lesser populated towns further south that seem to be a better fit for him based on his criteria.
