My husband accepted a job in DFW (GP area) & moved about 6 months. Myself and kids are finishing up the school year here in Kansas & will be there in June. We have been looking for 6 months for a home and still don't have one. We have focused on the southern half of the metroplex (Midlothian, Mansfield, Red Oak) to make his commute less congested but I am having a real issue with some of the $100+/sf homes in Midlothian. That seems ridiculous when there are SOOO many other places we can get a home just as nice for a much better price. I REALLY like the Cedar Hill Lakeridge area (lot sizes & homes are nice, close to shopping & it looks like a quick commute for hubby), however, after reading posts here, I'm a little concerned with the smog/dust blowing downwind from the cement plants in Midlothian. Does it really affect Lakeridge? Is Midlothian better because the dust is leaving that town & affecting the other towns?

Also, I can read the TEA reports of school "ratings" however, being a teacher myself I know it doesn't tell me the whole picture of the school. What is the culture of the Cedar Hill school district like? How about Midlothian or Red Oak? I am looking for a district where the majority of parents are college educated professionals and make education a priority for their children. And a district that has achieved racial harmony.

Although I have lived in Kansas all my life, I am very excited about moving, just feeling a little overwhelmed at trying to narrow down the choices.

Lake Ridge is absolutely my favorite neighborhood of Cedar Hill. It's actually my favorite one among several cities in the southern sector of DFW. It feels as if you're living in the middle of the country with so many trees, hills, lots of elbow room between neighbors, most homes are on an acre or so. In the many years I have been doing business around there (I was actually there today, I have 4 homes for sale in Lake Ridge), I have never heard anyone buyer or seller complain of smog from the cement plant in Midlothian. It's pretty far from it. Also, because of the hills, I think it doesn't affect LR that way.

My daughter lives in Midlothian. Great schools; not much diversity. I worry alot about the air quality.
I like Mansfield a lot. What about North Grand Prairie, the Sherwood Forest addition? Lovely area. I also like Lakeridge.
