I'm going to be moving to Dallas in two months, so I'm going to need a place to live. I am leaning toward an apartment, but economically speaking, it may be better for me to live in a house/condo with roommates.

I wonder if there is any where that meets my preferences. I would like a place fairly close (hopefully 15 minutes without traffic) to work - Richardson. I would prefer a complex with decent amenities (like a gym and a kept landscape), that is also walking distance to nice hangout spots (is there a version of West Village that has Ford Fusions instead of Ferraris?), and has a more young professional feel to it?

Thanks for any help anyone can give me!

You might look at downtown Plano or the Telecom Corridor in Richardson. Both are on the DART line, both have some new construction apartments, many of which have commercial/retail/restaurants on the street level. You could also look at the apartments that are part of Firewheel Town Center in Garland.

Henderson Ave (a.k.a. Knox-Henderson) would be good if you can get next to North Central Expressway or DART's Mockingbird station (also close to Lower Greenville Ave) - depends on where you are working in Richardson.

If I were single I would not want to live in the surburbs. Lakewooder gives give advice. I would also add Addison to the list since it is very close by and has a nice singles scene.

I would suggest the Village. There are a ton of apartment complexes. The price range of the one you pick will determine the approximate age of the crowd. I think there are a lot of students, but 3 of my 30-something professional friends live there. there area a lot of walking trails, a 'country club' with outdoor pool, a gym, tennis courts, other sports/intramural type things, socials, etc. Lots of young people around (but not all college). Close to independent restaurants, etc. close to northpark mall/movies. close to knox/uptown/greenville ave. Really close to the I-75 to zip you right up to Richardson. Myself, I prefer the knox-henderson or especially uptown/ turtle creek area, but not to drive out to Richardson each day. The Village would likely be my next choice, if working in Richardson. check out: MyVillageApts.com

I lived in the Village last summer, there's a certain someone I probably shouldn't live near for "personal" reasons.

oh; sorry to hear that; maybe they've moved! :-) Have you thought of Mockingbird Station? Smaller, but right next to the I-75... or Addison?
