That's not it. They're just bad french fries. The texture and taste are off because of the way they make them. They should be double-fried in two different oil temps to deliver a crisp exterior and fluffy nicely done interior.

I had some "natural" potatoes last night at home that were delicious.

Baked potato sticks - slice russets into wedges, the thinner the better. Preheat oven to 425.

Make a spiced fat mixture - last night I used coconut oil, a dab of butter, sesame-chili oil, and dried San Antonio chile powder and melted it gently. Butter, tabasco, and cumin is good mixture too.

Brushed my potato wedges liberally with the mixture, sprinkled a bit of sea salt on, and baked until brown and crisp. Definitely beat certain french fries I can think of. I like them with ketchup, my mom likes them with grated cheddar.

At least two people gave a false argument that people don't like them because they're not full of preservatives.

SOOOO sorry I corrupted this pure In-N-Out thread with a recipe. How shameful of me. (and I'm far from the only one that doesn't like them!!)

The majority of modern American palates are tuned to corn/soy based processed foods. So it is a safe assumption for someone to make about folks disliking the fries due to a lack of preservatives.

It's not fair to compare fast food french fries with something like that.....it would be too expensive or take too long to make....this is like comparing canned cranberry sauce and homemade......two different playing fields.

They aren't french fries, nor did I say they were. I said they were a delicious, natural way to eat potatoes, therefore disagreeing with the people don't like preservative free potatoes argument.

Most French fries are delicious.. the fact that I prefer my BAKED potato sticks to In'n'Out fries is to me, a good indicator of how sub-par their fries are.

None of us have any idea what you're rambling on about.

You made a statement that I don't agree with. I gave an example to dispute your basic argument of why some dislike the fries (i.e. they have no preservatives), and some other posters also disagreed with your statement. It doesn't bother me if you like them and it shouldn't bother you if I don't like them. Call me a rambler if that's the best comeback you've got...
