My husband and I are planning to move to Dallas in the summer 2011. He is an English teacher with five years experience teaching in university and community college. I am a system analyst for three years focus in PeopleSoft application. I also have business background working overseas for over 10 years, so I am open to get a job in a technical or business position.

We are thinking to make a trip to Dallas next month to get an idea of the area. At the same time, I want to visit some staffing agencies to discuss job opportunities with them as well. Does anyone have suggestions which agencies that I can start with? I have never used staffing agencies before, what will they do to help job seekers finding a job?

I sent my resume to Delta Dallas a month ago but no reply at all from them. So I don't know whether they are really helping me finding a job. I have concern to disclose my personal information if they are not helping. Would that be helpful if I could talk to them in person? Or today they would prefer receiving resume online and that's it!

Thanks for your advice.

My background is accounting and I specialize in software conversions, right know I now of two major employers that are in the midst of a PeopleSoft conversion and I've had offers from both of them so given your timeframe I'd say you were in good shape for getting hired for systems analysis. I worked with Accountemps and Accounting Principals so you might try them.

I'm not sure there is a lot of face to face meetings with staffing agencies unless they actually have a job for you. If you look at their online application it will sometimes say, We will call you if we have a job.

It's not like the old days when you sent a staffing agency a resume and they called you in for a little chit chat and then they placed you in jobs.

At least that is what I discovered in the last couple of months. I ended up getting a job by applying for a position on a big company's website careers page.

Thanks for your advice. I have tried both sending resume to agency and applying jobs on company's website site. I think this is what I can do before we move there next year.
