Dallas Is the New L.A.: Chase and Lonestar Will Shoot Here. And, Bonus Good Guys Episodes! - Dallas News - Unfair Park

But two days after NBC surprised absolutely no one by picking up Jerry Bruckheimer's U.S. Marshals actioner Chase comes word that FOX has indeed placed an order for Lonestar -- the soapy drama about an oil man leading a double life that was known as Midland when it was shooting here with director Marc Webb and co-star Jon Voight earlier this year...

... The Good Guys, which debuts on Wednesday night on FOX, won't wrap in July after all. The buddy-cop comedy starring Bradley Whitford and Colin Hanks -- which, if the pilot's any indication, is kinda good -- was supposed to shoot here for only 13 episodes. That has changed: Apparently, FOX execs like the show so much they've added another seven eps on top of the initial order.

Hollywood? Hardly...

Shreveport is bigger in the movie biz than Dallas.

Matt leave it to you to chime in with a negative. I'm sure Tyler is a "hotbed" of cinematic sensations.

I suppose you didn't get the thread title reference...that's a lyric from ZZ Top's "Tush" - guitarist and singer Dusty Hill is attended The Shrine of East Dallas.

Tyler is no hotbed for movies by any means, but Glen Beck & ZZ Top were just here at the Oil Palace a few weeks back. Is that Hollywood enough for a town of 100,000?

It still surprises me that, with all of this incentive money luring Hollywood producers to Texas, that so little of it goes to anything being shot in Houston. It seems the lion's share of it goes to Austin and then Dallas.

Movie and tv production will go to whichever city and state offers up the most taxpayer-funded incentives and makes it more friendly to shoot scenes in town. Sure, your sate or city gets some glamor time and some buzz perhaps if the production is a success critically or by audience. But it is similar to subsidizing big businesses... socialism for business.

BTW, movies and tv series are being filmed in many other cities and towns across America (and Canada) now as well. It's similar game as attracting out of town businesses to set up HQs in town by giving big tax breaks or some other sops.

Congratulations Dallas! I was talking about how rare it is for shows to be made about Texas, even though many are shot here, on another thread. I'll have to check out "Lonestar" Personally I think "Midland" would be a better title, but anyway, hopefully it'll be worth watching...LOL.

Haha, that wouldn't make too much sense considering Lubbock's economy has almost nothing to do with the oil industry.
