Although the Census estimates were way off the past decade compared to the 2010 Census. The Dayton MSA and CSA grew for the first time in decades.

Dayton MSA is alive and well. It's the city of Dayton that is struggling.

Considering how long that we've been informed that Dayton (and its environs) have been shrinking, this really good news. I'm a big proponent of Cin-Day, and this is just the kind of news I like to hear!

Well, Dayton proper is in dire straights, while the Dayton region or MSA is alive and well and adding population. Please check the following link to see why I say.

MadeInDaytonBlog.com: How to Save Dayton - Part 1

I know the author, and have the book Saving America's Cities. He credits Cincinnati in his book as a city that is doing things right when it comes to turning around a diminishing city.

While it's good news on the surface, I would be hesitant to call it a victory just yet. As has been mentioned with these numbers, they are just estimates. I would wait to see if this growth is repeated 2011-2012, etc. before declaring it's for real. I'm personally rooting for Dayton, though. It's probably the most forgotten metro in the state.

Well, it's not really a victory because the region is keeping the anchor city afloat. That's not good at all. But at least the MSA is growing. I used to live in Dayton proper for a couple years on the east side and I could really bore you with all that needs to happen there. The city itself has so much potential though.

^ I have to agree with you both. Dayton proper's in a world of hurt. And, as you mentioned, jbcmh81, nobody need get too excited yet about those MSA figures--much more time will be needed to validate them.

My question is... would that truly benefit Dayton? I would think a combined metro would put most, if not all of the emphasis and attention on Cincinnati. After all, it will be called the Cincinnati metro, not the Dayton metro. It might bring positives to Cincinnati, but otherwise Dayton's problems will still exist and it won't have a name for itself anymore.

Shocker! Some good news for the Cincinnati-Dayton region and look who comes scurrying by to throw a wet towel on things. If Columbus, tomorrow, gained 2,000 new residents, you would be the first to come on here trumpeting the news.

This is VERY good news for Dayton.
