I tried the title "Where Do You Vacation?" but it was already used in the Houston forum.

Stole this idea from the Cincinnati thread where a revised Hilton Head thread got me thinking about vacation season.

I have been a fair number of places, but I have enjoyed the Outer Banks due to the ability to get the family all together in one large house and have a wonderful time. It does not hurt that it is in driving distance for everyone scattered along the east coast. Personally, I like the quaint charm of Hatteras (the village) over the ritzier locations like Pine Island (stayed in both).

So, where do you vacation?

I don't vacation much, but it seems like most people in the eastern Dayton area like to travel to various places in the Carolinas.

The less well-heeled spend vacations and holidays fixing up their homes, engaging in humble hobbies, visiting relatives or maybe just looking over local activities. Often they are holding down a job and a half or maybe two and there isn't time to take care of such things otherwise, even if there is money at hand to "vacation" (which of itself isn't that likely).

Most of my friends go to Gatlinburg and/or Florida.

Never been to Gatlinburg. Or out west.

Gatlinburg always seemed a little bit of a tourist trap area. Maybe its just me? Like I said, I have only heard accounts second hand.

See lots of HI and OBX stickers around here. I've been lucky enough to have also traveled parts of Europe and Caribbean.

I like to travel in the first place, even if it is a day-trip to Cincinnati or Columbus.

And that is why I count myself among the lucky ones. For being able to travel as much as I have is a true blessing. It also helps having friends and family up and down the east coast.
