I saw this this afternoon:

Reinvention Portraits

An honest & fair look at front porch people in Dayton. From my days of wandering the city with a camera I can vouch for the is being a good show capturing the people of Dayton with perhaps more dignity that one would expect. No "gawk at the White Trash" thing going on here.

THere is a great video installation, too. A three-way split screen on a loop. I almost started to cry, realizing this is my home. Familiary places & scenes (trains rumbling through town on the viaduct, drive throughts, etc), capturing the genus locii of Dayton...nothing glossy, nothing focusing on "the worst"...

A very populist show, here. Worth the visit, but it closes on the 29th....

Thanks for the heads-up. It's been a couple years since I visited, so I may pass through. I never tire of checking on the Edward Hopper piece, if nothing more.

Unfortunaly there is no catalogue or DVD of the vid for sale at the museum store. I wanted to get a DVD of the vid to send to some out-of-town folks showing them Dayton.

You have me intrigued... maybe I'll check it out (have not been to the DAI since childhood.)

Since I maintain the persona of a smart***** I'll just say... it's a miracle that the photographers even found anyone outside, in Dayton.
