Hi, I am new here. I did a search and couldn't find my answers. I apologize if a thread exists and I couldn't find it.

I would like to know if any of you have firsthand knowledge of or send your children to Dayton area private schools and if so how do you rate your school?

I am looking for a school that has kindergarten.

I am in particular curious about Spring Valley Academy and Incarnation.

Thank you in advance#

We have our son in preschool at The Miami Valley school. It has been a wonderful experience for him and we plan to keep him there.

I don't know anything about Spring Valley Academy, but I work at Incarnation. It is a great school. Almost all private schools in the area are though.

The Miami Valley School has agreat reputation. I know some parents who sent all of their children there.

If you are looking for a religious school, Holy Angels is within the Univ. of Dayton area, however it is not owned or controlled by UD.

Thanks, all. I have been researching (online only) various private schools in the Dayton area. However, I don't know anyone who has children attending private school. So I appreciate the first-hand knowledge I'm getting here.

From what I've read online, Miami Valley School appears to be amazing. The price, however, is not something I will be able to afford. So sadly I'm not including that one on my list of potentials. I probably should have mentioned that in my original post.

Joe from Dayton - actually I am not religious at all and am not looking specifically for a religious school. However, it appears to me that Miami Valley School is the only non-religious private school in the area. All - please correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks in advance for future replies!

RDriesenUD, do you know anything about Incarnation's waiting list? I have contacted Incarnation about it but as of yet have not heard back from anyone. I was told by my son's preschool teacher that they have a year-plus waiting list. I read on their website that parishioners get first dibs. I also read that 90% of the student body is Catholic. Can I deduce that the other 10% have been on the waiting list? Or is there sometimes a wait list and sometimes no wait list? Do you know how far in advance people put their children on the wait list? Thanks

I don't know anything about Incarnation but we were also going to look at St Charles Borromeo in Kettering it looks like a fantastic school. We decided not to look because the preschool program was only a few days a week and we wanted a 5 day program. They may be worth a look.

Hey OP,

What county are you in? I think both Miami and Greene allow open enrollment, and there might be the possibility of open enrollment in certain districts in Montgomery too. I personally don't know the rules, but I do know in Miami Co a number of students open enroll into the districts there. A couple of students were from Clark Co, so say if you live in Riverside and want to avoid the schools there you might be able to open enroll into Beavercreek or Bellbrook. Again, I don't know the rules, but it might be worth a shot first and save a lot of money.

Otherwise, other posters would know a lot more about specific private schools and can/ have commented. So best of luck!

Hi OHKID, thanks for your reply. I am in Montgomery County.

I have looked into open enrollment. We would want to attend Centerville public schools if we did that. I have already spoken to the district and they do not allow open enrollment nor do they allow tuition unless you are a family member of a district employee. We would only be looking at Centerville (for public schools) at this point for various reasons ... we plan to move there hopefully sooner rather than later, my child's private preschool buses from the Centerville north and south Kindergartens for afterschool care/enrichment classes, etc.

But thank you for the tip ... it was only a couple days ago that I learned about open enrollment and "tuition" for some public schools in Ohio.

Honestly, I don't know. I am not full time there. I am in grad school getting my degree. I can try to find out. I work at a few other schools in the area and they are all good. Incarnation would be at the top of the list, but you really can't go wrong.
