On Esrati's blog today, he had a great post about the UD Women's basketball team. Here it is:

Free things to do tonight- Dayton Flyers Women’s Basketball – Esrati

Which got me thinking - aside from the discussion earlier this year when UD made the Elite Eight in the NCAA tournament, we don't talk about Dayton sports much. And I'm sure some of you guys follow the local teams or go to the games, so let's talk about it!

I used to go to UD women's volleyball and women's and men's soccer. All are really fun to go to and are free. The level of play is so much higher than you would expect.

It's a shame that the Bombers didn't make it here. They had a good run, but they shoulda stayed here

^Agreed. They were a good team. Actually, they're the only hockey team out of all the ones we've had over past years that people got excited about. They were a big deal.

Bringing back Esrati's blog again, but here's a sad pic of attendance from a recent game. Notice how few people are in the bleachers. As much as I hate to say it, probably a lot of the reason why is because they're playing at Hara and not at the Nutter center:

I remember when I was little their games were on TV sometimes. I used to enjoy watching them. I really wish that downtown arena could have worked out.

The Flyers have great women's b ball, v ball and soccer. It's a shame more sports fans don't watch them play.

No, just the Bombers. They were on one of the local cable channels like 99 is now for TWC.

Default UD Athletics Riding High

UD's volleyball team won the Atlantic 10 regular season championship this week, a remarkable accomplishment for such a young team - out of a total roster consisting of fourteen players there are six true freshmen and one redshirt freshman, so literally half the team were freshmen! Earlier this month the women's soccer team won the A-10 tournament. Women's basketball is favored to win the conference (picked by all 14 coaches in the preseason poll), so women's athletics is poised to pull off a trifecta. And mens' basketball should be in contention for the conference title and another NCAA berth.

We had the best times at The Dayton Bombers games. We were season ticket holders for a couple years.
Also try to keep track of some of the players who played on the team.
