.... because why not haha.

Actually, I'm starting this because of this news:
Ohio Senate votes to allow open alcohol in entertainment... | www.daytondailynews.com

And the success of the new breweries and distilleries thus far, etc. It's a very cool, enlightened cultural wave, and one that brings into question a lot about our society as a whole. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the result of open-container laws in cities. We're living in a very interesting age now, one that is increasingly social and connected. It will be very interesting IMO to see how this plays out in Dayton.

What are your thoughts on the open container law and the new kinds of community built around alcohol?

It makes sense in some places. The Flats in Cleveland and Arena District in Columbus are the 2 places that immediately came to mind when I saw this, seems like a good fit in those places. The Banks in Cincinnati is another place, especially for Reds games.

I think, the Oregon District would be the only place currently in Dayton with enough concentrated liquor licenses to do it. It would be interesting to see that play out. I'm not so sure the residents would ever give it to the go ahead.

^Yeah, it will be interesting to see how this plays out. Very interesting.

What got me in this article was the comments from township trustees in West Chester. Here's a couple excerpts of their views via their president, George Lang, in the DDN article above:

Quote:
West Chester Twp. Trustee President George Lang said he was slightly disappointed that West Chester, Ohio’s largest township with more than 60,000 residents, would not get to have more than one entertainment district allowing open alcohol containers.

“There’s more than one area where this may make sense for West Chester, but I’m all for anything that can help increase capitalism, if you will, increase business and increase profits for the companies of West Chester,” Lang said. “I see this as a home run, not just for West Chester, but a whole lot of other communities, as well.”

Among the sites Lang mentions are Voice of America Centre and Streets of West Chester shopping centers just off Interstate 75.
So definitely an interesting mentality there. I'm not sure if I would consider either location (both of which are large shopping centers surrounded by parking btw) to be logical choices for open container zones. But to each their own I guess.

More alcohol-related news. I guess alcohol is all the "buzz" these days haha (yes the pun was intentional):

City, residents object to Dollar General selling liquor | www.mydaytondailynews.com

Anyways, this IS a big story IMO. Especially since action here could set a precedent in other Dayton neighborhoods. And honestly, I'm not sure which side of the issue I should be on.
