So, bringing up a post from CP earlier about a notable Daytonian:

//www.city-data.com/forum/cinci...-sam-hall.html

Here's a thread about Notable and Noble Daytonians.

Considering we were once a major innovation center (due to a number of Noble and Notable Daytonians), as well as some new light that will be shined on their journeys soon through the like of Tom Hanks and his HBO series about the Wright Bros, Martin Sheen coming into town to receive an honorary Doctorate from UD, etc.

This may be a good place to discuss their efforts, current discussion and news about them, and their contribution to our city.

Anyways, info on Martin Sheen's visit:

An interview with him (behind paywall)
Arch interviews Martin Sheen:

With all due respect to Dorothy Stang, I'm not in favor of this.

Some obscure place I still have the name of a Notre Dame nun at St. Agnes parish in Dayton View who was murdered by a mentally disturbed individual who broke into the convent and started shooting. I don't remember when -- certainly after 1971 -- and I've never been able to spell her last name (it started with a B, Sister Donna B.... from I think Chicago). In my opinion she was just as much a martyr as Dorothy Stang, but evidently you don't call it that if the whatever happened in Dayton, Ohio.

I don't have a great deal of time at the moment to start typing (and typing and typing- I don't think I'd stop for a couple of hours, at least)...but it suffices to say that this thread could- and by all rights, should- get very long. There are a great many notable Daytonians, both historical and modern.

Kim and Kelley Deal - Kim Deal was the bassist for The Pixies and later formed The Breeders with her twin sister Kelley. In the Divine Hammer video you will notice the adult bookstore that used to be on 3rd St. right next to Dayton Church Supply.

Here's the other one of these "big names" threads.

//www.city-data.com/forum/dayto...es-dayton.html

Interesting point:

I tried several names before finding it, including Scotty Reston as such (got the place in Virginia) and Deeds (plural, meaning the colonel, which was rather stupid, but it's near midnight).

What found this thread almost immediately was Orville Wright.

It's amazing what a huge contribution to popular music Dayton made in the 1970s. I got rid of my LP traditional records, but used to have a copy of The Ohio Players Taste of Honey album - one of the best album covers ever.

( I also had a copy of Cheech and Chong's Big Bambu with the original rolling paper intact. )
