Paragraph 5, it's hard to believe:

Fire departments stretched thin as they battle huge spike in OD calls | WKEF

If this is true, regional news about the matter has barely scratched the surface.

I know at one point, the Coroner's office was using "cold trailers" to hold the bodies. Not sure if they still are or not

There were a lot of Franklin people stealing from my store to support their heroin habits when I worked in Springboro, recently two 49 year old men were found dead of an OD in Franklin, no surprise there.

Narcan does not save lives, it just extends them until the next OD.

Yep, we get people showing up to our ED twice in same day, after getting revived the first time. They want the fentanyl mix that will get them high enough to die, expecting someone to bring them back every time...until they don't.

Unpopular opinion... we should spend less money on Narcan and let the inevitable happen.

I wish Trotwood would stand up and say they didn't have the money for Narcan anymore. No more playing games, no more letting people come back to life after physically dying from an overdose 5, 6, 7+ times. It's ridiculous.

That'd lower the crime rate too

Even as a nurse (who would never just stand by and let someone die on the street), I'm kinda leaning that way. Of course nothing exists in a vacuum and everyone's addiction is different, but with EMTs tied up Narcan'ing losers all day long while regular people are having heart attacks and strokes, my sympathy is waning.

^Agreed. They are taking a lot of resources from people that are really in need.

Awesome that you're a nurse btw! I have a lot of respect for nurses, even thinking about body issues and correcting them makes me feel light headed and queasy so I have a ton of respect for those that can do the job

Haha, thanks...it really has to be something you love in order to do it. I work in critical care and love it, but can eventually see myself burning out on it specifically because of how many drug addicts (and alcoholics) we get these days who detox on our watch.

To an extent, isn't it rather like taking care of babies?

I'll join SWOH and others: we should have a three strikes and you're out rule for Narcan. After that, we redirect the money we would have spent on overtime for paramedics. Spend it on the local schools instead... in the hopes we can educate the next generation on why heroin is a poor choice.
