Need Opinion on Springfield Ohio!! (Columbus, Cincinnati: crime, daycares, homes)

Hello Everyone,
first of all i am very thankful for this forum and appreciate every help in fron up!!
I am living currently in Europe and thinking about moving to Springfield ohio this year. I have been visiting the US quit often, but never lived in the US before.
I am very concered about the crime in the US, i know that crime is everywhere, but i always had the impression that the US has more criminal acts then in some parts of Europe.
The town i am living currently has almost no crime at all.
I would love to hear everyones opinion on living in Springfield ohio.

Is there a lot of crime in this town???
I also have a little kid and of course this makes me even more concered about this!!

Also does have any suggestions on daycares,kindergarten, elementary schools...ec.???

Every information is highly appreciated, thank you so much
Living in Europe always gave me the impression that living free, meaning kids can walk with no concern to the school or walking

I don;t know much about Springfield other than I believe it was an "old" industrial town.

There really isn't a crime problem in the United States unless you are a drug dealer.

Don't believe what you see on television or the movies.

Yeah, Springfield should be fine, just watch where you go.

However, if you like the urban atmosphere and amenties, you might want to try the Oregon District in Dayton, Oakwood, or South Park. Posting in the Dayton forum would be a good idea if the urban lifestyle interests you. Btw, Dayton is about 30 minutes away from Springfield, but it is closer to major shopping and cultural events in its MSA and Cincinnati's. Springfield is closer to Columbus, though.

However, if you want the traditional suburban lifestyle, you would probably want to move to the area north of town and east of US 68, which is quite nice (or so it looks from US 68), and there is a mid-sized mall and shopping district right nearby.

Every town has its trouble spots. Springfield sometimes is the "red headed stepchild" to Dayton - but it also has the potential for growth because it's located between Dayton and Columbus. They are building a new regional hospital in the downtown area and that eliminated a lot of blighted homes and streets. They've also done a good job of attracting some high tech companies.

I grew up in the Springfield area and now live in a Dayton Suburb. I have to say... Springfield seemed to have more crime than the Dayton suburbs (the exception would be inner city Dayton).

As many have said, there are some AWFUL blocks in Springfield (along route 40 comes to mind) and some fairly nice blocks in Springfield. I can't say that I would recommend letting a young child walk to school in any cities in Ohio, but I tend to be cautious.

What are you looking for in terms of the community? Will you be moving for a specifc job or looking for a job once you are here? Would you like to be near a nice park, a specific church, public transportation, etc.?

Hi: NO... you don't want to come to Springfield. I have two small kids and have owned a business here for 8 years. I can't wait to get out. You know those photos of Springfield on the first page of city-data.com? 60% of Springfield is in the condition of that photo and the rest of the pix are from the Chamber of Commerce.

Don't do this to yourself. I highly recommend Oakwood in Dayton. Your child can walk to an excellent school (Springfield's are under an academic watch by the state!), you can walk to the famous Dorothy Lane Market and shopping. You may really like it there.

You can stay in the Springfield area. There are parts of the city that are not bad at all. No offense, but some people have bad experiences in an area, and expect you will too. If you do not like Springfield, check out towns located close by.
