Hello!

I recently aquired my BA in Marketing. While I enjoy it I would really like to teach. Does anyone know how to make that happen? What would I be required to do? More school? Thank you for all your help!

Maybe you could try being a TA or something for a little while, and work to get your master's in teaching. There really is no other route (although online options may make this more convenient, like the University of Dayton's well-respected online education school)

Well. . you could substitute teach, but it's not going to pay much....something like $80/day and that's before taxes.

To actually be able to teach, you would have to go back to school and take those courses needed to become a certified teacher and pass the praxis exam. You're probably looking at about 2 years for your undergrad at which time you will be able to teach, but keep in mind you'll also need to get your masters within 5 years of that. Most schools would most likely waive your gen eds, so you won't have to repeat those, but there's probably at least 2 years of work you'd have to complete along with student teach. If this is something you really want to do, I'd say do what is going to make you happy.

Also, I know that if you would be interested in teaching special education, there are some districts that will hire you with your Bachelors (not in education) with the promise of you going back and becoming a certified teacher. But, I think it's only if you intend to teach special ed.

Hope this helps!

Ohio has an alternative path for licensure.
ODE - Alternative Routes to Educator Licensure

I'm not sure how a BA in Marketing would figure into this, but it can be done.
