H&R's "free" tax prep costs $28 to do the state tax. Only the Federal form is free, and that's only for simple returns: "A simple tax return excludes self-employment income (Schedule C), capital gains and losses (Schedule D), rental and royalty income (Schedule E), farm income (Schedule F) and shareholder/partnership income or loss (Schedule K-1)."

I've used Tax Act the past few years. Free Federal prep, and they do more than the simple returns allowed on H&R's "free" tax prep. And the state prep is only $15.

Thanks for the info!

I have used tax act in the past and been happy with it.
