I'm wondering if anyone has a suggestion for a nice restaurant in Newark, DE. I might be meeting someone there for the first time and would like to eat at a place that is decent--something on a higher level than mere pub food.

I'm open to various cuisines. Any suggestions?

Thanks. I checked out their web site. Looks like what I'm looking for.

Jeff - What's this like now? I remember when the old Stone Balloon was a popular club/concert venue, with live music almost every night (late 70's & 80's). We had a lot of fun there! Is it upscale now? I'd love to go up and reminisce.

The Stone Balloon Winehouse has nothing in common with the old Stone Balloon (sadly, perhaps), apart from sitting on the same piece of land. After the Stone Balloon closed and was razed, it was replaced with upper end condos and the higher end restaurant-bar that is commonly called " the Winehouse", although the old venue's name is still formally part of their title.

Thank you, doc.
Not named after "Amy", I gather.
I haven't been back to the Deer Park in a couple years, a really old tavern our family had ties to. Family records indicate our ancestors in Newark were less than sober, most of the time.

Default Deer Park Tavern

Had the opportunity to stop at the Deer Park Tavern for lunch yesterday, in Newark, and really enjoyed it. Service and food were great! Building has had some updates, and has been known as a college hangout for many years.Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. It brings back many memories for us, from years gone by. Additionally, I always like to read up again on the history of the Deer Park, which ties in with our family roots.
(Not upscale, but nice)

We're within walking distance of Main St. and have tried just about every place there is. In fact, I had lunch at The Stone Balloon today. Always very tasty. I also think Iron Hill has good food that is a notch above, in an environment that is more convivial and less "special occasion" than The Stone Balloon. Caffe Gelato can be a good experience too, although I find that quality and service both vary (I have a favorite pasta dish there that, last time I visited, was like eating a salt lick).
