I was hoping to get some input from anyone regarding the price of extras.

For example, we looked at so many beautiful models, have the floor plans, etc. The base price for the home may be $260,000 but the model they show you will have every extra imaginable. I could not get a price list from the builder but looking at the floorplan, even some of the windows were considered extras!

Can anyone tell me of their experience with working with new homes in a development? Were you nickel and dimed on everything? Does anyone have a price list to share? I'm just curious about what one could expect before getting our hopes up. What's the cost of a fireplace? Granite countertops? etc.

In all honesty, my DH is more interested in buying a new home; I'd rather buy an existing home and have it remodeled to suit us. (Note--he's the handy man, I am merely the gofer).

Thanks!!!!

Your sales rep should, on request, supply you with a list of options and their costs. Our lists had every option available for all the different models and was quite extensive. We went over page by page on the options specific to our model that way we knew our costs beforehand. You need to be careful because most models have upgrades and bumpouts galore and your base model will be quite different than what you see. Some builders have "it's included" clearly stated on certain items. Others have a listing of options usually posted as you walk into the samples.

Many builders are offering incentives for options so it is a good time to upgrade if you go with new construction. Also, there are currently plenty of resales so your timing is perfect to buy in today's market.

Good luck and happy house hunting !
